Discover how our fully integrated welding positioner enhances productivity and weld quality. This walkthrough demonstrates how the positioner automatically rotates parts for the robot, eliminating the need for manual flipping. With seamless integration as additional robot axes, programming is simple and results are repeatable.
What is an Integrated Welding Positioner
An integrated welding positioner is a rotating fixture that holds and moves a workpiece while a robot welds it. Unlike a traditional standalone turntable, the positioner is fully synchronised with the robotic welding cell. It is also programmed as an additional axis of the robot, allowing the robot and the positioner to move as a coordinated system.
In practice, this means the positioner automatically rotates or flips the part into the best possible angle for each weld, rather than relying on an operator to manually reposition it between passes. Everything is also controlled from the same tablet teach pendant used to run the robot, with simple drag-and-drop programming, providing a simple, streamlined programming process.
Leading Benefits of Integrated Welding Positioners
Integrated welding positioners offer a range of benefits for production lines, including:
- Higher productivity: As parts are repositioned automatically between welds, it removes the downtime from manually flipping and re-clamping components, allowing for better productivity.
- Consistent, repeatable quality: Because the positioner and robot are synchronised, every part is presented in exactly the same position, every time, reducing the risk of variation or errors.
- Optimal weld access: The positioner moves the part into the ideal angle for the robot to reach each weld, allowing for simple access and increased efficiency.
- Simple programming: As an integrated robot axis, the positioner is controlled through the same tablet interface as the robot, using simple, graphical, drag-and-drop programming.
- Improved operator safety and workload: Automating part rotation reduces manual handling of heavy or hot components during the welding cycle, enhancing workplace safety and freeing up operators to focus on higher value tasks.
- Reliable, repeatable results at scale: Once a job is programmed once, the positioner can reproduce it accurately on every subsequent part, making it ideal for large, repetitive production runs.

So this is our two axis positioner in action. So this axis here is fully synchronised with the robot. All the controls are done through the tablet teach pendant.
So this is a full robotic welding positioner on a cobot. So it’s got the Fanuc servo motors which are controlled as an additional axis of the robot. And we can see that the positioner allows the
robot to access the welds in the most optimal position. And that means that your operator doesn’t have to constantly flip the part over so the robot can reach the welds.
In this demonstration here on a customer’s part, the robot’s welding around the top. Once it’s finished doing that weld, the rotator is going to automatically flip the part over so the robot can weld on the other side.
So you can see here the parts being flipped over. The part is going to be repositioned accurately every single time.
Here comes the robot back in. It’s going to weld the weld on the other side. And if we come over here and have a look at the programming, you can see it’s a simpler tablet interface. There’s no actual programming. It’s simply graphical icons on the screen which are dragged and dropped.
So the part’s finished. So, this is what you can only get from one of our synchronised positioners.
